About HD Mixtapes
Restoring and preserving rave history
HD Mixtapes is an archival project preserving 1990s and early 2000s era DJ mixtapes remastered from original tapes, CDs, DATs, and source material wherever possible.
HD Mixtapes began in 2020 as a way to share a collection of rave-era tapes built up over twenty years of collecting. Most of this material has never appeared on streaming platforms and a meaningful portion exists nowhere else in playable form.
Every upload goes through a careful restoration process: noise reduction, gentle EQ work, channel-balance corrections, and where needed, physical tape repair including splicing and reassembly.
The archive spans house, deep house, jungle, drum & bass, techno, trance, breakbeat, hardcore, ambient, and downtempo with a particular focus on the West Coast US rave scene of the 1990s. Tapes come from record shop pickups, mail-order catalogs, promos, and donations from the community.
The shop carries limited edition mixtapes made by me, each one professionally duplicated and packaged with a digital download code. You'll also find an HD Mixtapes sticker there.
