Claude Young

Claude Young Jr. grew up in Detroit, where he got his start helping out Jeff Mills on his radio show in the early 1990s before launching his own label, Utensil, with the One Complete Revolution EP. He went on to found or co-found several more Detroit labels, including DOW, Frictional with Anthony "Shake" Shakir, Seventh City, and Acacia, releasing under a long list of aliases including Brother From Another Planet, with Dan Bell, De-Yang Crew, DJ 2120, and Twine.

In 1995 he remixed tracks for Inner City, Joey Beltram, Innerzone Orchestra, and Slam, and released music on Djax-Up-Beats and Andrew Weatherall's Emissions Audio Output Recordings. That same year he relocated to Europe, going on to curate the third volume of the long-running DJ-Kicks mix series and build a reputation as one of Detroit techno's most eclectic and improvisational DJs, with a style often compared to Jimi Hendrix's musicianship.

He returned home in 2011 to close out the "Made in Detroit" stage at the Movement festival, a set URB called one for the ages, and continued producing and remixing for artists across genres, including Carl Craig, Gary Numan, and 4hero.
