Dano

Dan Hruby, known as Dano, founded Red Melon Records in San Francisco in 1997 with Jay Zimmermann and Fred Zirdung, known respectively as DJ JZ and DJ Fredness. The label helped shape the late-'90s West Coast house sound, bringing tech house and deep house to the forefront, and Dano's SF parties became cultural touchstones of the scene.

He built a reputation for a signature blend of funky, dubbed-out house, breaking through in 2000 with remixes for Dajae, Terry Lee Brown Jr., Mood II Swing, and Swayzak, and released mix albums for Under Cover Music Group's Tech House Phenomenon series and Slip 'n' Slide's Golden Gate Grooves compilation. He frequently collaborated with fellow West Coast producers Onionz and Tony, including the Extreme Measures EP and a run of remixes for the Mephisto Odyssey series.

Red Melon moved with Dano from San Francisco to Oakland and eventually San Diego, and he now lives in Carlsbad, California, holding a residency at Shelter in Encinitas and continuing to release music on the label.
