David Alvarado

David Alvarado grew up in Los Angeles, where as one of few Latino students at a predominantly white school, he found community with friends over collecting and listening to records. A cousin who was a DJ noticed the size of his vinyl collection and encouraged him to start playing local parties, and Alvarado went on to run his own renegade sound system, DJing underground parties around the city.

His single "Las Americas Project" caught the attention of Plus 8's Richie Hawtin and John Acquaviva, who signed him to their new imprint, Definitive Records. He went on to found his own label, Bomb Records, which became part of the foundation of LA's house scene, and later launched Sunchildren, a label blending Latin, Brazilian, and African influences into West Coast house.

He recorded as Sunkiss with Kenneth Graham on the UK label Peacefrog, and has released music on Ovum, Ultra, Yoshi Toshi, Plastic City, and Strictly Rhythm, with albums including Transfigurations on NRK and Mayasongs on Peacefrog. He's played clubs including Ministry of Sound, The Hacienda, Fabric, Tresor, and Panorama Bar.
