DJ DB

DB Burkeman, known as DJ DB, moved from London to New York in 1989, having been a resident DJ and promoter at the London Limelight. In New York he built residencies at clubs including MARS, Red Zone, and MK, threw outlaw parties called DEEP, and founded the club NASA, credited as the first American night to showcase the harder breakbeat techno sound that would evolve into jungle and drum and bass.

In 1990 he was hired as an A&R scout for Profile Records, and by 1993 became A&R director for sm:)e communications, one of the first American labels to release drum and bass and showcase homegrown artists in the style, where he signed DJ Dara and helped launch his career. In 1996 DB and Dara co-founded Breakbeat Science, the first record store and label in the US devoted entirely to drum and bass, and in 1997 DB helped set up Warner Bros.' electronic imprint F-111 Records.

Over his career DB produced and released 13 mix CDs, including the History of Our World series for sm:)e and The Secret Art of Science for Breakbeat Science, and in 2007 released an artist album with Stakka under the name Ror-Shak.
