DJ Hyperactive

Joseph Manumaleuna, born and raised on Chicago's south side, emerged from the city's early '90s hard techno and acid scene as DJ Hyperactive, becoming one of the biggest names, alongside Woody McBride, in a wave of Midwest rave culture that filled barns, warehouses, and abandoned buildings across the region. He released a run of 12" EPs through the decade on labels including Drop Bass, Contact, and Missile, and founded his own label, 4 Track Recordings.

He relocated to Southern California in 1997 and continued producing and touring internationally, playing venues including Leeds' Orbit, Tokyo's Liquid Room, and the 1996 Love Parade in Berlin. He's cited as one of the DJs referenced in Daft Punk's track "Teachers," and co-produces as part of the duo Fuzz Face with DJ ESP.
