DJ Keoki

Keoki Franconi grew up in Kihei, Maui, and moved to New York City at 16, where he caught his first DJ break at Danceteria before landing a residency at Michael Alig's Disco 2000 party at the Limelight. He became part of the flamboyant Club Kids scene alongside Alig, though he later distanced himself as Alig's drug problems escalated; the era was later dramatized in the 2003 film Party Monster, with Keoki played by Wilmer Valderrama.

He became one of the first traveling DJs of the early 1990s US rave scene, and his Los Angeles performances caught the attention of Moonshine Music president Steve Levy, who signed him to the label. His 1996 track "Caterpillar" reached number three on the Billboard Dance Chart and earned him a slot on that year's Lollapalooza tour, and he followed it with the albums Ego Trip (1997) and Altered Ego Trip (1998), self-styling himself as "the Bad Boy of Techno" along the way.
