DJ Sneak

Carlos Sosa was born in Puerto Rico in 1969 and moved to Chicago with his family in 1983, bringing salsa, merengue, and Latin orchestra music with him before discovering the city's underground house scene, warehouse parties, and WBMX radio. He earned the name Sneak through his graffiti tagging days and worked as an airbrush artist before self-releasing his 1993 debut, Sneaky Traxx, on his own label, Defiant Records.

While working at Chicago's Gramophone Records in 1994 he met Cajmere, whose Cajual and Relief labels released his breakthrough tracks and helped launch his international DJ career. His 1996 track "U Can't Hide from Your Bud," released on Derrick Carter's Classic Recordings, became a blueprint for the filtered disco-house sound that later influenced Daft Punk, who cited him on "Teachers" and later had him co-write lyrics for "Digital Love."

He was part of Chicago house's second wave alongside Derrick Carter, Green Velvet, and Paul Johnson, and played San Francisco's Funky Tekno Tribe parties early in his touring career. He later relocated to Toronto, where he's been based for two decades, and launched the label Magnetic Recording Company in 2001, the same year his single "Fix My Sink" became a UK top-20 hit.
