Doc Martin

Martin Mendoza started playing house records in San Francisco in 1986, building a reputation at the city's warehouse and loft parties for eclectic taste and epic sets, some running eight hours, at spots like Flammable Liquid and Sunday Love.

He relocated to Los Angeles in the early '90s and became one of the architects of the city's rave scene alongside DJ Dan and Marques Wyatt, later becoming the first West Coast DJ to hold residencies at multiple New York clubs, including the Roxy, Twilo, and the Tunnel. In the early 2000s he founded Sublevel, the label and party series he's now run for 25 years.

He later spent time as a resident DJ at Fabric in London before returning to Los Angeles to start a monthly party series bringing in international guests. Now in his fourth decade behind the decks, he continues to tour and record, and in 2026 spoke to Billboard about the loss of his longtime friend and scene collaborator DJ Dan.
