Doc Scott

Scott McIlroy, born in Coventry in 1971, discovered drum and bass after receiving a pair of turntables at 18, playing raves including Amnesia House and The Eclipse in 1989 and 1990 before giving up his day job to DJ full time. Recording as Nasty Habits, his 1992 EP for Reinforced Records, As Nasty as I Wanna Be, featuring "Here Come the Drumz," set the template for darkside drum and bass, and he became part of the Reinforced crew alongside Dego and Mark Mac of 4 Hero and, later, Goldie.

He and Goldie co-founded Metalheadz in 1994, with Scott's single "VIP Drums" as the label's first release, and he became a resident at the seminal Metalheadz nights at the Blue Note. In 1996 he released "Shadow Boxing" under the Nasty Habits name, one of the genre's most celebrated productions, and founded his own label, 31 Records, which gave early releases to Calibre, Marcus Intalex, Ed Rush & Optical, and Pendulum, whose 2003 single "Vault" was their first ever release.
