Biography
Sunshine and Moonbeam Jones formed Dubtribe Sound System in San Francisco in the spring of 1991, building a live house act out of sequencers and samplers rather than DJ equipment, inspired partly by DJ Doc Martin's sets at the club Townsend and a formative summer Sunshine spent in Ibiza in 1989. The duo's 1994 debut album, Sound System, became a breakout success on the strength of tracks including "Sunshine's Theme" and "Mother Earth."
Known for playing live for hours at a time and touring relentlessly across North America and abroad, Dubtribe ran their own label, Imperial Dub Recordings, and reached a mainstream crossover peak with 1999's Bryant Street on Jive Electro. They played their final show in New York in December 2005, closing out sixteen years as one of the West Coast's most influential live house acts.
