Biography
Lucas James Rodenbush, known as E.B.E., moved to San Jose, California, from a suburb of Dallas as a teenager, studying electronic music at a public arts magnet school. Drawn first to Depeche Mode, New Order, and Ministry, he discovered techno in 1992 and began developing his own productions, bringing a demo cassette to the local record store Outer Rhythm, soon renamed Solid Grooves, in 1994.
After a year of consultations with the store's owner, he had four finished tracks, and in 1995 the store's label, Solid Grooves, launched with The Energy EP, released as EBE Audio, as its first release. He went on to release music through Transmat, Soma, Plastic City, and DJ Garth's Grayhound label, and later earned a BFA in Music Technology and an MFA in Experimental Sound Practices at CalArts.
