Biography
Ben Settle, known as Ed Rush, grew up in West London and moved from hip hop and electro into the city's burgeoning rave scene. In 1992 he self-released the white labels "I Wanna Stay in the Jungle" and "Look What They've Done," and the following year convinced his neighbor Nico Sykes to produce with him, resulting in "Bludclot Artattack" on Sykes' No U-Turn Records, a landmark darkcore track.
His 1996 releases, including the Skylab EP on Goldie's Metalheadz and "Kilimanjaro" on Grooverider's Prototype label, helped define the harder, two-step-driven techstep sound. In 1997 he partnered with Matt Quinn, known as Optical, co-founding Virus Recordings, and the duo's 1998 debut album, Wormhole, became a foundational work in the neurofunk subgenre.
