Eddie Richards

Eddie Richards was born in Amersham, Buckinghamshire, and started DJing in the early 1980s with a friend, putting together a rudimentary system under the name Ministry of Sound, years before the London club of the same name existed. Inspired by the club Heaven, he met Colin Faver there, who helped him land a residency at Camden Palace in the mid-1980s, where he became one of the first UK DJs to play house music.

By 1988 he was playing at Heaven and Manchester's Hacienda, and became resident at the legendary Clink Street parties near London Bridge, where his dark, techy, extended sets earned him the nickname "Evil" Eddie Richards. That year his single "Acid Man" reached number 23 on the UK singles chart, and he went on to remix artists including Orbital and The Shamen, headlining UK pay parties like Sunrise, Energy, and Helter Skelter.

In June 1990 he founded the DJ agency dy-na-mix, and later became a resident at Wiggle, the London night where the term "tech house" was coined, earning him recognition as a godfather of the genre alongside Terry Francis and Nathan Coles.
