John Digweed

Thomas John Digweed grew up in Hastings, England, and started DJing around age 13, eventually opening his own club night, Bedrock, in his hometown so he could book bigger names like Carl Cox to play alongside him. Sasha caught one of his sets there, was impressed, and offered Digweed a joint residency at the club Renaissance in Mansfield, launching a partnership that produced 1994's Renaissance: The Mix Collection, widely considered the first nightclub compilation CD planned and marketed as a proper release rather than an amateur mixtape.

Sasha and Digweed followed it with the Northern Exposure series, whose 1997 US edition helped introduce American audiences to progressive house, and held a legendary monthly residency at New York's Twilo through the late '90s and into the 2000s until the club closed in 2001. In 1999 Digweed founded Bedrock Records, named after his original club night, and his production duo with Nick Muir, also called Bedrock, produced the track "For What You Dream Of," featured in Trainspotting.

He hosted the radio show Transitions on Kiss 100 from 2000 to 2011, remixed artists including New Order, Underworld, and Quincy Jones, and topped DJ Mag's Top 100 DJs poll in 2001 after appearing on the list more than a dozen times. Bedrock Records has helped launch artists including Danny Howells, Jimmy Van M, and Guy J, and Digweed marked the label's 20th anniversary with Bedrock XX in 2018.
