From Los Angeles, California

Monty Luke grew up in Los Angeles on a steady diet of hip-hop, underground electronic music, and dub, later co-founding the LA party Dub with Joe Rice and Markem X. His path took him from LA to San Francisco, then to Detroit, where he spent a decade from 2008 to 2018 founding his label Black Catalogue and working as label manager for Carl Craig's Planet E Communications.

He's since settled in Berlin, releasing his debut album, Hard Work Not Hype, in 2019, and Nightdubbing in 2024, a record built around dub, house, techno, and Caribbean influences, and named as a play on Grace Jones' Nightclubbing.
