Onionz

Andrew Venegas grew up in Bayside, Queens, the son of bassist Victor Venegas, who played with Mongo Santamaria and Nina Simone and held the principal bass seat at the New York Philharmonic. Onionz started drumming as a toddler and began mixing hip-hop, breakbeat, and disco records as a kid in the early 1980s at Woodside's Irish Cottage, later moving into techno by the end of the decade and DJing some of the same New York rooms his father had played, including Lincoln Center, the Village Gate, Club USA, and Moulin Rouge.

In 1994 he founded the label Electrik Soul Recordings, which released early work from Kaskade, Moby, Dubtribe, and Vitamin D, and he's shared bills with The Orb, Josh Wink, Slam, and Sven Väth. In 2002 he was nominated for Billboard's DanceStar USA Award for Best Breakthrough DJ.
