Biography
Prototype 909 formed in New York City in 1993, made up of Taylor Deupree, Dietrich Schoenemann, and Jason Szostek, and signed to Sonic Records, a subsidiary of Instinct Records, shortly after Moby's departure from the label. The trio built a reputation across North America's rave scene for live performances built almost entirely on early-'80s analog gear like the Roland TB-303, TR-808, and SH-101, composing on the fly so that no two sets sounded the same.
They played more than 50 US shows, including dates at New York's Limelight, along with performances in Canada, Mexico, and Germany, and toured the Northeastern US with Killing Joke and Stabbing Westward in October 1994, before disbanding in 1998. Their 1995 live album, Live 93-95, reached number 18 on the CMJ Dance Chart, and their track "The Kids Don't Care" was featured in the 1998 documentary Modulations: Cinema for the Ear.
