Biography
Rob Cameron went to high school with Scott Friedel in Potomac, Maryland, and after a year at NYU moved to San Francisco in 1989, ahead of Scott and Gavin Bieber. In 1991 the three, who present themselves as brothers despite no blood relation, founded Hardkiss Music, initially promoting underground raves and warehouse parties before building it into a label that launched DJ and production careers, including their own.
As Robbie Hardkiss, Rob became the trio's focal point on the decks, known for his humor and party-stoking sets at West Coast raves, and released solo work under the name Little Wing, blending Jimi Hendrix-style psychedelia with funky, echo-laden techno on tracks like "Mercy, Mercy." In 1996 he recorded a mix for Los Angeles' Moonshine Records alongside his own solo mixes from Scott and Gavin, and the group later signed to Sony-Columbia for an original album before parting ways under major-label pressure.
Hardkiss's 1995 compilation Delusions of Grandeur is regarded as a genre landmark, cited as an influence on artists including the Chemical Brothers and Goldie. The trio reunited following Scott's unexpected death from a cerebral aneurysm on March 25, 2013.
