Stareyes

Vivian Host, who performs as Star Eyes, is a Los Angeles native who moved to the Bay Area in 1995 to attend UC Berkeley. She started DJing at 15, taking her name from Cosmo & Dibs' 1993 Moving Shadow track "Star Eyes (Remix)," and became one of the first female drum and bass DJs in the US, holding a three-year residency at San Francisco's pioneering, female-led Eklektic drum and bass night.

She founded America's first UK garage duo, Syrup Girls, with DJ Siren, then moved to New York and co-founded the Trouble & Bass crew and label, which helped bring artists like Skepta and Skream & Benga to US audiences. Since Trouble & Bass disbanded in 2015 she's run her own label and party series, Chaos Clan, and returned to Los Angeles, where she's a member of the Warp Mode crew and hosts a monthly show on Dublab.

Outside of DJing, she's worked as a music journalist under her given name, serving as editor-in-chief of XLR8R and contributing to Resident Advisor, Mixmag, DJ Mag, Pitchfork, and Vice, and now hosts the Rave to the Grave podcast.
