DJ Dara

Darragh Guilfoyle had been DJing in his native Dublin for about four years before moving to New York in 1994, just as the American rave scene was taking off. He quickly connected with fellow expat DJ DB, and in 1996 the two of them opened Breakbeat Science in Manhattan's East Village, the country's first record store dedicated entirely to drum and bass.

Breakbeat Science became a pilgrimage site for junglists nationwide and ran for about nine years, doubling as a label with artists including Pieter K, DJ Abstract, and AK1200. As DJ Dara, he released the albums Rinsimus Maximus in 1997 and Future Perfect in 2001, among other mix CDs, and became a member of the Planet of the Drums crew alongside Dieselboy, AK1200, and J Messinian.

He also hosted Velocity, one of the most popular early internet drum and bass radio broadcasts, interviewing artists like Andy C, Ed Rush, Optical, and DJ Hype.
