Biography
Dmitry Brill was born in Ukraine to a classical pianist and enrolled in an experimental music program at age nine, studying music history, theory, and composition. He moved to the US in 1981 and frequented New York clubs like the Paradise Garage and NASA, drawing influence from Yellow Magic Orchestra, Kraftwerk, and early East Coast hip-hop as he began DJing at local clubs.
As Supa DJ Dmitry, he co-founded Deee-Lite with Lady Miss Kier in 1986, later joined by Towa Tei, and the group's 1990 single "Groove Is in the Heart" became a global hit. After Deee-Lite disbanded, he pursued a solo career influenced by Steve Stoll, John Selway, and Timo Maas, releasing his first solo mix CD, Screams of Consciousness, in 2000, and contributing to the soundtrack for Scream.
