Fabio

Fitzroy Heslop grew up in Brixton, South London, raised on reggae before moving through soul, electro, and hip-hop into acid house and techno. He met Grooverider through the pirate station Phase One, and in October 1988 the two of them started Rage, a Thursday night at the London club Heaven that ran until late 1993.

Rage became one of the true incubation points for jungle and drum and bass, drawing a crowd that included Goldie, Kemistry and Storm, and Bailey, and giving Fabio and Grooverider the freedom to build an entirely new sound out of house, techno, and hardcore. Fabio launched his own label, Creative Source, and later teamed up with Photek on the track "No Joke."

He and Grooverider hosted a Kiss FM show from 1994 to 1997, then moved to BBC Radio 1, first with the show One in the Jungle and later their own program starting in 1998, a run widely credited with bringing drum and bass to a mainstream audience. They left the BBC in 2012 and moved their show to Rinse FM in 2016. The pair have been named among Mixmag's 25 greatest DJs of all time and won the Outstanding Contribution to Music award at DJ Mag's Best of British in 2015.
