Mark E. Quark

Mark Hanson started DJing in 1988 at 18, playing substitute slots on San Diego college radio before he and a friend landed their own show on KSDT. By 1989 he'd become a resident DJ at SOMA, San Diego's premier nightclub, and grew its Saturday crowd from a few hundred to nearly a thousand over a three-year residency, shifting from industrial into acid house, Belgian new beat, and techno along the way.

In 1991 he helped throw Ware's The House, a party that helped lay the foundation for San Diego's rave scene, and went on to hold residencies at Club Geraldine's and Playskool before starting his own night, G-Force, at The Flame. He later became a founding member of the long-running SD party Moonshake alongside Dazzla and Lee Reynolds.

Along the way he played a Los Angeles street rave alongside Aphex Twin that was filmed for the 1995 movie Strange Days, and has shared bills with Doc Martin, Derrick Carter, and Little Louie Vega.
