From London, England

MC GQ grew up in London, where he and school friend MC Det would freestyle over beats banged out on their desks. Watching his neighbor DJ Ron play hip hop, soul, and rare groove on the TNT sound system pushed him toward the mic, and in the mid-1980s he and future garage figure DJ Spoony started a sound system together called Tom & Jerry.

He became one of jungle and drum and bass's defining MCs, working the mic alongside virtually every major DJ in the scene, including a long-running pairing with Andy C, and touring internationally for decades. In 1999 he launched his own label, Emcee Recordings, which went on to help break artists including Jubei, SP:MC, Breakage, and Sabre.
