Sage

Laura Totten, who came to San Francisco by way of Belfast, started DJing almost by accident around 1997, mixing on turntables that housemates Noel Stiers and UFO! kept at their apartment. They liked what they heard and offered her an opening slot at Phunckateck's weekly drum and bass night at San Francisco's Cat's Club, and the bookings kept coming from there.

As Sage, she became an early resident DJ at the influential SF night Eklektic alongside Star Eyes, and helped pioneer the US drum and bass sound as one of the scene's first international touring DJs, playing residencies across the US, Japan, Puerto Rico, Belfast, and Berlin between 1997 and 2004. In 1999 she joined DC Shoes' DJ team, co-designing a DJ bag with Dieselboy, and she later provided vocals on Bad Company's track "Breathe."

She co-founded the label Phylum Recordings with UFO! and Susie Lee, and released the mix CD Stateside Sessions, Vol. 1 on Topaz Records. She's continued working in music since, producing and writing songs across rock, electronic, and other genres.
