Storm

Jayne Conneely, known as Storm, grew up in Kettering in England's East Midlands and met Valerie Olukemi "Kemi" Olusanya, later known as Kemistry, while both were in college in Northampton. The two reconnected in London in 1989 after discovering the club night Rage at Heaven, and Kemistry's boyfriend at the time, Goldie, was drawn into drum and bass alongside them.

Goldie bought the pair their first proper set of decks in 1991, and in 1994 the three co-founded the label Metalheadz, with Kemistry and Storm managing the label and DJing together for two and a half years before leaving to focus on their own DJ careers. As Kemistry & Storm, they held a residency at Metalheadz's night at London's Blue Note and also played at Speed alongside residents Fabio and LTJ Bukem, and in 1999 released DJ-Kicks: Kemistry & Storm, recognized as one of the first widely distributed albums by women DJs in the genre.

Weeks after the album's release, Kemistry was killed in a car accident in April 1999. Storm continued on as a DJ and remained a chief selector for Metalheadz, later forming the collective Feline with other female drum and bass DJs and becoming known in the scene as the First Lady of Drum and Bass.
