Sutekh

Seth Horvitz grew up in Venice Beach and moved to the Bay Area to study cognitive science at UC Berkeley, where he started experimenting with electronics and DJing in 1992. Performing as Sutekh, he released his first track on the 1995 Swivel compilation on Belief Systems, a label connected to his own imprint, Context Free Media.

He shared a flat in Oakland with Safety Scissors in 1997, and the two performed together as Moron before Horvitz and Kit Clayton released two albums as Pigeon Funk. His work has appeared on labels including Force Inc, Mille Plateaux, Leaf, and Soul Jazz, and his 2000 debut full-length, Periods.Make.Sense, was considered one of the more innovative electronic records of its era. A track of his was later included on Richie Hawtin's mix album DE9: Closer to the Edit in 2001.
