Biography
Brian Sarpalius started DJing in Chicago in 1987, playing early house music before moving into UK hardcore, the genre that would become jungle and drum and bass, drawing on influences like DJ Hype, Andy C, and the Moving Shadow label. As Phantom 45, he became one of the earliest people presenting drum and bass in the US, championing the sound in Chicago starting around 1991.
He released the mix albums Drum and Bass Rinse Out on Moonshine in 1998 and Fully Sorted on Surge Recordings in 2002, and put out music on Moonshine, Suburban Base, and Surge. He toured extensively with fellow Chicago DJ Danny the Wildchild, including the Chicago Krush Rinse Tour in 2000.
